Neurodevelopment Date: 10 APRIL 2025, Venue: Department of Pediatrics, AIIMS, Jodhpur Organizer: ICON Foundation, Speaker: Dr. Varnit Shanker, Participants: 16

This session addressed Neurodevelopment — a fundamental domain in pediatric neurology. Conducted by Dr. Varnit Shanker, this workshop cum CME emphasized understanding developmental trajectories, delay assessment, and intervention planning.

Dr. Varnit Shanker introduced participants to developmental milestones across gross motor, fine motor, language, and social domains. The use of screening tools such as the Denver Developmental Screening Test (DDST) and Trivandrum Developmental Scale was demonstrated. A key part of the session involved case-based discussions, showing how to assess developmental delay, determine possible etiologies (perinatal insults, metabolic, genetic), and refer for therapy. The lecture integrated principles of neuroplasticity and the importance of early intervention. Participants also discussed the multidisciplinary management framework involving pediatricians, therapists, and psychologists. The concept of Individualized Developmental Plans (IDPs) was introduced to ensure holistic child progress. The session proved instrumental in helping clinicians strengthen their developmental assessment skills and improve follow-up planning for children with neurodevelopmental concerns.
