Cerebral Palsy (CP), a major neurodevelopmental disorder impacting movement and posture. Dr. Varnit Shanker led thesession, offering an evidence-based approach to assessment, classification, and rehabilitation. The lecture began with anoverview of perinatal brain injury mechanisms leading to CP, including hypoxic-ischemic events, prematurity, and infection.Participants were familiarized with the Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) and MACS for functionalassessment. Dr. Varnit Shanker emphasized early diagnosis through red flags like delayed sitting, abnormal tone, orasymmetric movement. Participants discussed how MRI findings correlate with motor outcomes and how comorbidities likeepilepsy or cognitive delay alter management plans. The importance of parental counseling, assistive devices, andcommunity-based rehabilitation (CBR) was stressed. The session concluded with a group activity on developing realisticgoal-oriented therapy plans. It reinforced that CP care is not curative but focused on maximizing functional independenceand quality of life.
