ICON FOUNDATION organized a community outreach program titled “Understanding the Brain” to educate frontline health workers and the community about pediatric neurological disorders. Dr. Varnit Shanker discussed major neurological conditions seen in children, including epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and developmental delay. Using clinical case examples, he emphasized the importance of recognizing early warning signs such as abnormal movements, speech delay, and learning difficulties, which help ensure timely referrals and early intervention for affected children.
During the program, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists received training on counseling techniques, neurological identification checklists, and referral pathways. Posters related to epilepsy awareness and early intervention were displayed throughout the campus. Feedback from participants indicated a significant improvement in their understanding of childhood neurological disorders. The program effectively equipped healthcare workers with practical knowledge and skills to promote early diagnosis, timely referral, and improved neurological care for children.
